Fishing Second Dam

This counts as my 5th fish day this year so far. I set out in the morning to fish First Dam again. The fish there are stubborn but I am determined to catch one. But when I got there the wind was blowing hard out from the mouth of the canyon so I sent Amy a text and headed up to 2nd dam. The wind was minimal there so at least I could cast out.
It was pretty cold though. The water kept freezing in my first three eye holes on the fishing pole and down on my reel. I would have to dig the ice out about every 5th cast or so. You can see in the picture below that I am bundled up pretty good. Still felt very much like winter.
There are few mallards that hang out up here. It is not overboard like at first dam. They stay pretty close to the sand bar on the south side of the dam but they are close enough that you can watch them as you fish.
Its not any surprise that I came up empty handed again. I'm the worst fisherman I know but at least I am learning what is not working this time a year. I tried my Rapala #3 countdown brown trout minnow most of the time. It got some looks but might have been a little big for this time of year. I also tried some more dry flies with my bobber and my red worms from Gulp. But no bites once again. For me its about getting out and feeling the bite in the air for a few hours. Reeling one in would just be a perk.
